Synthetic Diamonds – Resemble Real Ones to Perfection
A synthetic diamond basically is a stone that possesses admirable qualities of the natural type of diamond such as refractive index, durability and hardness. Synthetic diamonds are actually real diamonds; only they are produced in labs or are man-made, and depending on the process, can even be superior to natural diamonds.
The first synthetic diamonds were produced in the 1950s in Sweden and then not so long after the synthesis of diamonds was reported a second time by researchers at GE.
The main difference between synthetics and their natural counterparts is the way in which they are created. Whereas synthetic diamonds are created in a lab by those individuals who are well versed in diamond synthesis, natural or mined diamonds are found in the mines already created, albeit they are in a rough form.
There are also more styles and sizes available in synthetic diamonds as lab producers are able to control variables when creating the gems rather than allowing the natural processes of the Earth to do the creating.
Improved technology has made it increasing difficult even for the trained eye to determine the synthetic diamond from its worthy authentic counterpart. Many times over, the proof of authenticity has been left to the jewelry labs certification of authenticity. With the high quality of synthetic diamond on the market the only way you can be sure that you have a genuine diamond is to have it certified and if you are purchasing a new diamond insist on a certification before purchasing.
