Another Loss for NFL’s Lions
Matthew Stafford had his debut, and it was, how can I say, underwhelming? 16-37 for 205 yards and three INTs.
It was not that he was passing bad-looking passes. They had been well crafted passes that simply happened to eind up in New Orleans Saints’ arms.
Stafford’s accuracy will be criticized for a prolonged time until he begins hitting passes such as the terrific looking connection with Calvin Johnson on a common basis.
And just what did we all forecast to have occur? All those who happened to be in support of starting Stafford, allow me to be the first to tell you, there will be more games similar to this until he figures things out. But where was the running game? Where was the offensive line that showed such assurance in the preseason? Where was the defense?
Ah yes, the defense – an area that was mainly unnoticed in the ‘09 draft as the team opted to concentrate on scoring.
No sacks on Drew Brees, which isn’t really surprising as he was only sacked 13 times during the 2008 season, although wow, I don’t believe they laid a finger on him the entire game.
I identify I had forecasted the Lions capturing between six to eight games this year…however now I’m not so certain. They won’t go winless; at least I hope not.
The Lions are in a sharp learning curve, and I believe Jim Schwartz, Scott Linehan, and Gunther Cunningham are the fitting coaches to get the Lions in the right direction.
I’m additionally quite certain that as a product of this game, the Lions are going to be doing exercises until they collapse.
However I’m not as worried about the offense as I am about the defense. The Lions did score 27 points, and most of the time, that is going to win you a small number of games.
But giving up 515 yards, 28 first downs, and six touchdown passes will not earn you a spot at the Super Bowl unless you are buying a ticket.
