The Hills Have Eyes: Common American family on a camping trip is pestered by brute, cannibalistic mutants. The film is above better than most like it, with compact direction and lots of entertaining twists and turns. An Incredibly gory film that has possessed a cult following. Cast includes Susan Lanier, Robert Houston, Virginia Vincent, Russ Mourn, Dee Wallace, Martin Speer, and Michael Berryman. (89 minutes, 1977)
Try or Rock: Neil Simon’s supreme comedy of embarrassment, adjusted from Bruce Jay Friedman’s small tale “A Change of Plan.” Jewish boy Grodin gets wedded to Berlin and meets an attractive WASP blond Shepherd on their honeymoon, and decides he must change his life. Very comical but that depends on your point of view. The Cast includes Charles Grodin, Cybill Shepherd, Jeannie Berlin, Eddie Albert, and Audra Lindley. (104 minutes, 1972)
Only the Strong: An Ex-Green Beret, his old Miami high school friend now bullied by a drug lord, turns twelve of the joint’s worst criminals into crime-busters by teaching them a hypnotic, Brazilian form of martial arts. They will now settle the score. Dopey however inoffensive; at its best in potently choreographed fight scenes. Cast includes Mark Dacascos, Stacey Travis, Geoffrey Lewis, Paco Christian Prieto, Todd Susman, Jeffrey and Anderson Gunter. (96 minutes, 1993)
Murder on Monday: Graceful all-megastar production of Agatha Christie’s whodunit set in the 1930s, with unrecognizable Finney as the master-sleuth Hercule Poirot, and all his suspects on the same railroad train. Vibrant amusement, although severely slow paced. Bergman won Best Supporting Actress Oscar. Cast includes Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Martin Balsam, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset, Jean-Pierre Cassel, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, and Wendy Hiller. (128 minutes, 1974)
Dillinger: Rugged gangster story written by Philip Jordan. This is one of the best B films of its kind albeit a key bank robbery is made up of stock footage lifted from Fritz Lang’s You Only Live Once. Cast includes Edmund Lowe, Anne Jeffreys, Lawrence Tierney, Eduardo Ciannelli, Elisha Chef, and Marc Lawrence. (70 minutes, 1945)
